Where to Buy Oral Semaglutide in 2026: Every Pill, Every Price

Oral semaglutide is sold in the United States under two brand names, and only one of them is approved for weight loss. Wegovy tablets, approved 22 December 2025 and in pharmacies since 5 January 2026, are the weight-management pill; Ozempic tablets, launched 4 May 2026, are the type 2 diabetes pill that replaced Rybelsus. Both are prescription-only, both are stocked at ordinary retail pharmacies, and both have a manufacturer self-pay price that starts at $149 per month.

Everything else marketed as "oral semaglutide" — compounded tablets, sublingual drops, troches, capsules sold as research chemicals — is not FDA-approved, and the last of those is not legal to sell for human use at all. Four things, one name.

The four products people mean when they say oral semaglutide

Wegovy tablets are the only semaglutide pills for weight loss you can legally buy

The FDA approved oral semaglutide 25 mg on 22 December 2025 to reduce excess body weight, maintain that loss long term, and cut major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with established cardiovascular disease plus obesity or overweight. It is the first oral GLP-1 cleared for weight management.

In OASIS 4, 307 adults taking 25 mg daily who stayed on treatment lost a mean 16.6% of body weight over 64 weeks, and one in three lost 20% or more: the same territory as Wegovy 2.4 mg injection.

Titration runs 1.5 mg for days 1 to 30, 4 mg for days 31 to 60, 9 mg for days 61 to 90, then 25 mg as maintenance. The label covers switching both ways: someone on 2.4 mg injection starts 25 mg tablets a week after the last shot, and someone stopping tablets starts 2.4 mg injection the next day. Like every semaglutide product it carries a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumours seen in rodents, and is contraindicated with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2.

Rybelsus is gone, and the milligram numbers changed

Most of 2026's confusion starts here. The FDA approved Ozempic tablets in February 2026 at 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg for adults with type 2 diabetes, and Novo launched them nationwide on 4 May 2026, retiring the Rybelsus brand. Shipments to wholesalers stopped and stock ran down over the summer.

The new tablet is a reformulation with better absorption, so the numbers on the bottle dropped even though the effect did not. The label is explicit that the two "are not substitutable on a mg-to-mg basis."

A smaller number is not a smaller dose; a Rybelsus prescription needs converting, not refilling.

Ozempic tablets top out at 9 mg and are indicated for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. The 25 mg dose exists only as Wegovy.

What oral semaglutide costs, by product and dose

These are Novo Nordisk's own self-pay prices through NovoCare Pharmacy and its savings offer, per the April 2026 price guides. One month means one bottle of 30 tablets.

With commercial insurance covering GLP-1s, the savings offer brings either pill to as little as $25 a month, capped at $100 of savings. Government beneficiaries are excluded from both offers.

List prices are far higher and largely theoretical: Rybelsus was $997.58 per 30-tablet package, and TrumpRx shows $1,349.02 for a 30-count bottle of Wegovy 1.5 mg. Novo announced on 24 February 2026 that semaglutide list prices drop to $675 a month from 1 January 2027, which mainly changes what insurers pay. Where the pills are actually dispensed

Novo said on 5 January 2026 that the Wegovy pill was available through more than 70,000 US pharmacies including CVS and Costco, plus NovoCare Pharmacy, GoodRx, and telehealth partners Ro, LifeMD and WeightWatchers. Four practical routes:

• Retail pharmacy counter. Enrol for the savings offer, take the coupon in, collect locally at the same price.
• NovoCare Pharmacy. The manufacturer selling direct with home delivery, at the prices above.
• Telehealth subscription. Since 31 March 2026 Novo has run a multi-month plan: the Wegovy pill is $289/month on a 3-month commitment, $269 on 6 months, $249 on 12 months, through Ro, WeightWatchers and LifeMD. The same FDA-approved product, cheaper for locking in.
• Insurance. Still the cheapest lane when a plan says yes. Medicare's GLP-1 Bridge demonstration, running 1 July 2026 through 31 December 2027, covers all formulations of Wegovy at a $50 monthly copay with prior authorisation, though that $50 does not count toward the Part D deductible or the out-of-pocket cap. The food and water rules are not optional

Absolute bioavailability is roughly 0.4% to 1% for Rybelsus and 1% to 2% for reformulated Ozempic tablets, so more than 98% of each dose never reaches the bloodstream. Absorption happens predominantly in the stomach, helped by SNAC (salcaprozate sodium) co-formulated into the tablet. The label's rules follow from that:

• One tablet, once daily, on an empty stomach in the morning
• With water only, up to 4 ounces (about 120 mL) — the label notes absorption is higher with 50 mL than with 240 mL
• Swallow whole; do not split, crush, chew or dissolve
• Wait at least 30 minutes before food, other drinks, or any other oral medication

Break those rules and you are not taking a lower dose, you are taking almost none.

Compounded semaglutide tablets, sublingual drops and troches

There is no FDA-approved sublingual, orally disintegrating or nasal semaglutide. The only approved oral dosage form is the swallowed tablet. Anything sold as a drop, lozenge or dissolving tab has not been through the trials that produced the numbers above.

The regulatory ground has shifted too. Semaglutide is on neither the FDA drug shortage list nor the 503B bulks list, and on 30 April 2026 the FDA proposed to keep semaglutide, tirzepatide and liraglutide off that bulks list permanently, finding no clinical need for outsourcing facilities to compound them. Comments closed on 30 July 2026 with no final determination announced.

For patient-specific 503A compounding, the FDA restated its position on 1 April 2026: a compounded product is essentially a copy of a commercial drug when it shares the active ingredient at the same, similar or easily substitutable strength and can be given by the same route, unless a prescriber documents a significant difference for that patient. FDA added that it does not intend to act against a compounder filling four or fewer such prescriptions per calendar month.

Read that against a market where approved oral semaglutide now exists at 1.5, 4, 9 and 25 mg: a compounded tablet at a comparable strength lands inside the description. FDA also says it is aware of no lawful basis for compounding with salt forms such as semaglutide sodium or acetate, which are different active ingredients. Research-peptide "oral semaglutide" and the absorption problem

Peptide vendors sell semaglutide powder, capsules and sublingual preparations labelled "for research purposes only" or "not for human consumption." These are not approved for human use, and that labelling is not a technicality that makes them legal: the FDA has warned companies that sold exactly these products direct to consumers with dosing instructions attached.

The pharmacology does not work either. Semaglutide is a peptide; swallowed on its own it is degraded and barely absorbed. The approved tablets reach 1% or 2% only because of the SNAC carrier and the fasting protocol. A capsule of raw powder has neither, and no vendor can say what fraction you absorbed because nobody has measured it.

If you go near this market, treat it as harm reduction rather than shopping: demand a batch-specific third-party certificate of analysis with identity and purity by HPLC and mass spec, and check its batch number matches the vial. As of 31 May 2026 the FDA had 990 adverse event reports tied to compounded semaglutide, considers such reporting incomplete, and has documented fraudulent products carrying the names of pharmacies that never made them.

Two things this gets confused with

There is no oral tirzepatide. Mounjaro and Zepbound are injection-only, and any pill sold as one is fabricated.

There is a second oral GLP-1 pill for weight loss, and it is not semaglutide. The FDA approved Foundayo (orforglipron) on 1 April 2026: a non-peptide GLP-1 taken any time of day with no food or water restrictions, averaging 27.3 pounds (12.4%) lost at the highest dose in ATTAIN-1, self-pay from $149 a month via LillyDirect. If the fasting window is the dealbreaker, raise it with a prescriber.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy oral semaglutide without a prescription?

You cannot. Both are prescription-only and no FDA-approved semaglutide is sold over the counter. Anything offered without one is compounded, counterfeit, or a research-labelled product not approved for human use.

Can I buy semaglutide pills for weight loss if I do not have diabetes?

Yes. That is what Wegovy tablets are for: adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity. Ozempic tablets are for type 2 diabetes only.

What happened to Rybelsus, and can I still buy it?

Novo Nordisk retired it in the US in 2026 and replaced it with Ozempic tablets; wholesale shipments stopped in May 2026 and stock has run down since. A Rybelsus prescription needs converting: 3 mg to 1.5 mg, 7 mg to 4 mg, 14 mg to 9 mg.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost without insurance?

$149 a month for 1.5 mg, $149 for 4 mg through 31 August 2026 then $199, and $299 for 9 mg and 25 mg, via NovoCare Pharmacy or the coupon at a retail pharmacy. A 12-month telehealth subscription brings it to $249.

Is oral semaglutide as effective as the injection?

At 25 mg, close: OASIS 4 participants who stayed on treatment lost 16.6% of body weight over 64 weeks, which Novo describes as similar to injectable Wegovy 2.4 mg. The lower strengths are titration steps, not maintenance doses.

Are sublingual semaglutide drops or troches legitimate?

No approved version exists. The only FDA-approved oral dosage form is a swallowed tablet formulated with SNAC. Sublingual drops and dissolving tablets have not been through human trials, and no bioavailability figure tells you what dose you get.

Can I buy oral tirzepatide instead?

No. Tirzepatide has never been approved in an oral form. The approved oral options are semaglutide tablets and orforglipron.
